Week 5 summer education

We are almost to the halfway point of summer break. In some ways the last month had gone fast. I can hardly remember dragging the boys to school in the morning. Yet some days are challenging and seem to drag on far longer than 24 hours.
Gabriel started the week like a two year old. Curious about things that aren't his like my mascara which ended up in his hair, making it an interesting morning. Some days autism is very annoying.
Eventually I got everyone settled in the playroom for some learning time. Gabriel worked on the alphabet puzzle with Lane. This was a neat moment because Gabriel doesn't care for puzzles and he doesn't always take time to show his younger siblings things that he knows how to do.
I found cookie sheet activities for the kids. Lane matched upper case letters with magnets while the boys created words. I like this activity a lot. It is far more interesting for them to play with magnets than sit and write. I didn't have to motivate them to work at all. Lane's Color Book

Using a few ideas from Pinterest, Lane and I created a book about colors for her. We had fun picking out paint chip samples and other colorful objects. We printed some free templates from blogs:


We cut out the pictures, sorted them, and glued it all into a journal type book we found at the teacher store.
Lane helped me pick out ribbon to glue on the pages, hanging out of the book. It created a type of book mark for each color. We are both proud of our little creation and I'm happy I was able to complete it with her.

Lane is become very good at naming colors but purple remains her favorite. Once in a while she will tell me that she likes purple and "kink".. pink in non-toddler speak.

Butterfly feet

Over winter break, we finally made our butterflies. I saw this idea on pinterest and bought the canvas eons ago. More like two months but it seems like eons.
These little foot butterfly prints were easy and cuter than I imagined. They were hung in the kids playroom today.
The kids thought it was hilarious when I put paint on their piggies. This is a fun way to remember their foot size at this moment of time too.
